Jesse and Rachel (6th wedding anniversary on San Juan Island)

Rachel and I spent a belated wedding anniversary celebration on San Juan Island staying at the Hillside Inn on Friday Harbor.  We took the afternoon ferry to Friday Harbor and walked about a 1/2 mile to the Hillside House and checked in.  We then took a nap and then showered for dinner.  We ended up going out to a restaurant called The Place which had great food.  I black bean and shrimp ravioli and Rachel had Crab and Shrimp pot sicker with a tang of Thai.  On the walk over we talked about some of the highlights in our six years of marriage.  When you look at it chronologically, we have sure fit a lot in a short period of time.  We talked about how much we used to travel, the cabin construction, the kids, and our third child that is coming.  We discussed the benefits of having a plan in place so that we can best navigate the stresses of life and to make the most out of the time we have together and also the best ways to raise children.  A few years ago we took a marriage course that focused on knowing your partner's love language and being able to speak to your partner in their love language.  That can easily get lost in the daily shuffle, but we agreed that it needs to be constantly tended to which makes the daily shuffle is much more enjoyable.   Everything is more fun when energy and motivation levels are high and everybody is feeling appreciated etc.

The Spadas were very generous watching both Owen and Ella so we could have a much needed and well utilized getaway.  We came home early in the afternoon.  I went to the library to study for my Physical Therapy classes, and then came home and then Rachel went to work to work on the finishing touches of her report cards.  I then put the kids to bed.  Owen spent about 15 minutes sounding out letters and words, while Ella listened to a book and went right to sleep.  It was nice to get away and nice to be back home with the kids.
